Explanation of dental cost
NHS free dental treatment is only available for pregnant women, newborns with babies in the first 12 months of treatment, children up to 18 years old, and many beneficially survivors. Everyone pays.
Some dental insurance policies cover NHS treatment costs, but others can make policyholders private.
Currently there are three billing zones for NHS treatment in England (after April 2015).
- Band 1 (£ 18.80) covers basic inspection, diagnosis, X-rays, and scale and polishing as needed. Emergency treatment can also be covered.
- Band 2 (£ 51.30) All treatments for band 1, additional work such as filling and removing the denture, removal of the denture and root canal treatment.
- Band 3 (222.50) All the treatments in Bands 1 and 2, as well as complicated procedures such as crown, denture and bridge.
Private dental treatment costs much more than treatment with NHS. One of the advantages of NHS treatment is that expenses are grouped and there is an upper limit under the best band, but private treatment costs tend to be itemized. Please refer to our page for details on differences in medical expenses of private and NHS.
